Abstract

Abstract: Implementation of Eco-Office Principles in Front Office Operation : A Comparative Study . Pollution and environmental damage caused by waste, carbon dioxide gas as the results of fuel burning, cutting the trees without replanting and forth. Environmentally friendly actions can be applied by anyone and this is very important to be applied in the offices where the offices always use electricity and papers and produce much waste during the 24-hour operational therefore hotel use  many papers and electricity as well as a lot of wastes. Manado Sintesa Peninsula Hotel and hotel Novotel are 5 star hotels. If the hotel is bigger, the greater the power that is used, the more the paper used and the more waste produced. The hotel has 8 departments and front office department is a department that uses electricity and papers more than other departments. Objectives of the hotel are to satisfy the guest and get the profit but must be accompanied by awareness of the environment. Awareness should be realized by implementing the principles of eco-office in the front office department operation. The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method which is a comparative study that is a) comparing the implementation of environmentally friendly practices in the front office department of Manado Sintesa Peninusula hotel and Novotel hotel based on standard eco-office guidelines and b) Comparing the application of environmentally friendly actions at  front office department of Manado Sintesa Peninsula hotel and Novotel hotel. The results prove as follows: a) the front office department of Manado Sintesa Peninsula hotel implemented 18 eco-friendly actions fully with  percentage of 37%, they implemented 7 eco-friendly actions partially with percentage of 14% and they didn’t implement 24 eco-friendly actions at all of 49 standard eco-office guidelines with  percentage of 49%, b) front office department of Novotel hotel implemented 21 eco-friendly actions fully with the percentage 43%, they implemented 21 eco-friendly actions partially with percentages 43% and they didn’t implement 7 eco-friendly actions at all of the 49 standard eco-office guidelines with percentage of 14%. The conclusion shows that the front office department of Novotel hotel implemented environmentally friendly practices in standard eco-office guidelines much more than front office department of Manado Sintesa Peninsula hotel
