Abstrak

The construction of flyovers is an important effort to reduce traffic congestion, particularly at railway level crossings and roads with high traffic volumes. One such infrastructure is the Nurtanio Flyover in Bandung City. However, constructing its approach embankment is challenging because the project is located in a densely populated urban area with limited working space and highly compressible subgrade, making conventional embankments susceptible to excessive settlement. This study compares two lightweight embankment materials: foam mortar as the existing material and EPS geofoam as an alternative. The analysis was performed using the finite element method (FEM) in PLAXIS 2D to evaluate stability and settlement, while construction methods and Bill of Quantity (BoQ) analyses were used to compare construction duration and costs. The results show that EPS geofoam increases the safety factor by 62.45% under static conditions and 26.49% under seismic conditions, while reducing settlement by 59.47% compared to foam mortar. In terms of construction, EPS geofoam shortens the construction period by 31.70% but increases costs by 33.06%. Overall, EPS geofoam demonstrates superior technical performance in stability, settlement reduction, and construction efficiency, whereas foam mortar remains the more economical option because of its lower overall construction cost for the project.
