Peat soil is an organic soil that has low physical properties (large pore number, high water content, and small soil volume weight). Therefore, the bearing capacity of peat soil is low, therefore this research aims to stabilize peat soil in Tondano, Masarang District, North Sulawesi, with one of the soil reinforcements that can be used, namely the deep soil mixing method, to strengthen the peat soil to bear the construction that will be built on it so that it does not experience a decline.
The principle of the deep mixing method is to improve soil strength by using binders, Deep Mixing is an in-situ soil modification technology where wet or dry binders are injected into the soil and mixed in-situ with soft soil. This method was chosen because compared to other soil improvement methods, the DSM method offers lower costs, no vibration, reduced construction time, and is more environmentally friendly.
The methodology used is modeling the deep mixing method using a mixture of cement, soil and water which is formed into a slurry. Tests were carried out using the Free Compressive Strength test method and the addition of one column, two columns, three columns of cement soil in the CBR test.
The qu max result obtained in UCS is a 200 kg/m3 Volume Mixture with a water cement ratio of 1.2, then continued CBR testing with the addition of one column, three columns, and four columns of soil, cement and water mixture using 5cm x 5cm and 11cm x 11cm steel plates as a modeling of shallow pile cap foundations placed on top of cement column stabilization, from the test results the highest results were obtained, namely 4 columns of 11 cm x 11cm plates with a reading of 137.50 and a Load of 157.73 or with a CBR reading of 2.70%.
